How to Make Your Coffee Taste Better

How to Make Your Coffee Taste Better

Many of my customers have told me, "My coffee tastes better drinking out of your mug." It turns out, they're right. While we've been used to getting our coffee on-the-go out of disposable cups for decades, this is a fact that has been known in Italy, the origin of the espresso, since the espresso's inception. There, they know that ceramic is the premium material of choice to serve coffee in, and that the choice of vessel material is just as important as the quality of the roast and preparation of the coffee. It's true that the superb coffee created by the hard work of many hands will be affected greatly at the last stage by the vessel it's poured into.
Why?
Different materials affect coffee flavor profiles: Ceramic mugs maximize flavor.

Disposable cups, while convenient, can absorb and retain coffee flavors, leading to a stale taste and potentially releasing harmful chemicals when heated. Stainless steel mugs can transfer their own flavors onto the coffee, altering the intended taste profile. Ceramic preserves the coffee's original flavor compounds and is the ideal choice for customers on the go. Until recently, there were no options for ceramic travel mugs. These are some of the first available on the market, and I'm proud to say they are sustainably made by hand.

Benefits of Ceramic Travel Mugs as the superior choice for takeout coffee:
    • Nontoxic (not lined with chemicals, as disposable cups and many metal mugs are).
    • Zero-Waste: The most sustainable choice on Earth, made of Earth itself
    • Maximizes coffee flavor: Unlike other materials for coffee to-go, ceramic preserves the coffee’s original aroma and is the superior material of choice for high quality brew
    • Most aesthetic design on the market.
    • Being handmade from my hands to yours, it feels amazing to hold and fits like a glove.

"If you've ever used a [disposable] travel mug, you know that the yellow coffee stain inside is a permanent fixture. This is because the plastic lining absorbs flavors; it latches onto that hot coffee taste and holds on forever. Conversely, stainless steel does the reverse and transfers flavors onto the already-existing profile. Similarly, stainless steel might fundamentally alter the chemical compounds that give a quality coffee roast its unique flavor. According to CoffeeAndHealth.org, there are over 1,000 flavor compounds in coffee.

Another reason that steel mug might be messing with your brew is because of its manufacturing. In the same way that processing and product origin affects your coffee, metal mugs with lesser-quality craftsmanship are often sealed with low-grade finishes that excrete into your drink. When it's time to invest in your next cool coffee cup, those extra dollars might be worth the investment to avoid that metallic aftertaste."
